Yes, I care.
Because in our carbon constrained future, renewable materials from sustainable sources will become more important than ever before. Sappi’s Symbio project is a great example of integrating our approach to business and the environment, using what we know to do more.
Symbio explores the use of cellulose fibres found in trees to reinforce plastics. These fibres can significantly increase the rigidity of plastic despite keeping weight low, whilst at the same time giving the material renewable properties. Higher rigidity also means a potentially lower carbon footprint, as less materials are used.
It can be used for a variety of applications including appliances, consumer electronics, car parts and furniture. Symbio is a first step in maximising the value of wood derived products. It’s exciting to explore new possibilities and innovations with the materials we now use to make paper.
Symbio makes Sappi eco-effective. How about you?
